  • 1 loaf thick bread challah, sourdough, or French
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup cold butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon for streusel

Method
 

  1. Prep bread by cutting it into 1-inch cubes; toast if not slightly stale.
  2. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth and airy.
  3. Layer half of the bread cubes in a greased baking dish, sprinkle blueberries, add remaining bread, and pour custard over.
  4. (Optional) Mix brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon for streusel; cut in cold butter.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight to absorb custard.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F, sprinkle streusel on top, and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
