Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Rinse fresh cranberries under cold running water, removing any soft or bruised ones. Drain and spread on a towel to dry.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine water (or water and orange juice) with sugar. Stir and bring to a gentle boil, dissolving the sugar.
  3. Once dissolved, add cranberries, orange zest, and cinnamon stick. Stir gently and let the cranberries pop as they soften.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat, discard cinnamon stick, and let the sauce cool completely in the pan.
  6. Transfer to a bowl or container and refrigerate until ready to serve.
