Ingredients

For the Base
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour gives the bars structure and a soft texture.
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats adds a hearty chewiness and nutty flavor.
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar enhances sweetness with a hint of caramel.
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar balances the sweetness for a lovely flavor.
  • 0.75 cups unsalted butter melts into the mixture for a rich, buttery taste.
For the Filling
  • 2 cups mixed berries use fresh or frozen; they provide a sweet, fruity burst.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch thickens the berry mixture to prevent a soggy bottom.
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice brightens the flavors and complements the berries beautifully.

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • measuring cups

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of old-fashioned oats, 0.5 cup of brown sugar, and 0.5 cup of granulated sugar. Whisk until evenly blended.
  3. Pour 0.75 cup of melted unsalted butter into the bowl with your dry ingredients. Stir until crumbly and holds together in clumps.
  4. Press half of the crumbly oat mixture into the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups of mixed berries, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Gently toss until well-coated.
  6. Spread the berry mixture evenly over the crust in the baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining crumbly oat mixture over the top of the berries.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40 minutes, checking for a golden top and bubbling berries.
  9. Allow the bars to cool completely in the baking dish before slicing.
