  • 2 tablespoons cream or milk

Method
 

Bento Cake Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pan.
  2. Cream softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract, blend until smooth.
  4. Whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Combine the wet and dry mixtures alternating with milk, mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 22–25 minutes, testing with a toothpick for doneness.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  9. Once cooled, level the top and slice the cake into layers.
  10. Beat unsalted butter for frosting until creamy, then add powdered sugar and cream.
  11. Reserve some frosting for the outer layer, optionally add food coloring to some frosting.
  12. Spread frosting between layers and apply a crumb coat around the outer layer.
  13. Chill the cake for 15 minutes to set the crumb coat.
  14. Finish frosting the cake and decorate as desired.
