Bento Cake Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking pan.
- Cream softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla extract, blend until smooth.
- Whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Combine the wet and dry mixtures alternating with milk, mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 22–25 minutes, testing with a toothpick for doneness.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
- Once cooled, level the top and slice the cake into layers.
- Beat unsalted butter for frosting until creamy, then add powdered sugar and cream.
- Reserve some frosting for the outer layer, optionally add food coloring to some frosting.
- Spread frosting between layers and apply a crumb coat around the outer layer.
- Chill the cake for 15 minutes to set the crumb coat.
- Finish frosting the cake and decorate as desired.
