Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground allspice, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the unsweetened applesauce, large eggs, pure vanilla extract, and vegetable oil.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just incorporated.
  5. Toss the chopped apples in a tablespoon of sugar mixed with a pinch of cinnamon, then fold into the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  7. If desired, sprinkle coarse sugar on top of the batter.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  9. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
